Instructional Design QA — Evaluation Tool

Project Overview

Designing a quality assurance and evaluation tool to assess instructional design deliverables for clarity, alignment, and readiness for delivery.

The tool provides a structured way to review learning assets against defined instructional, technical, and presentation standards.

Designing the Evaluation Tool

The evaluation tool is designed as a structured checklist and scoring framework that supports consistent review across multiple instructional assets.

It enables reviewers to identify gaps, flag risks, and provide targeted feedback without relying on subjective judgment alone.

Client Context

The client needs a reliable way to evaluate instructional design outputs across projects and contributors. Reviews must be consistent, efficient, and aligned to agreed quality standards.

There is a need to reduce variability in feedback, improve readiness before delivery, and ensure learning assets meet instructional expectations at scale.

What this tool is (and isn’t)

  • It is a quality assurance and evaluation tool, not a grading rubric for learners.

  • It supports reviewer judgment through structured criteria.

  • It focuses on instructional, technical, and presentation quality.

  • It is not an automated scoring system.

Design Approach

The tool is structured around key instructional dimensions such as learning alignment, content clarity, assessment integrity, visual quality, and technical readiness.

Criteria are articulated in clear, observable terms, allowing reviewers to evaluate assets quickly while still providing meaningful, actionable feedback.

Key Components

  • Standardised evaluation criteria across instructional dimensions

  • Yes/No and qualitative review checkpoints

  • Space for targeted reviewer comments

  • Clear separation of instructional and technical checks

  • Scalable structure suitable for repeated use across projects

Role & Contribution

I designed the evaluation framework, review criteria, and scoring logic.

This included defining quality standards, translating instructional expectations into reviewable checkpoints, and structuring the tool for practical use by reviewers and leads.

Outcome

The evaluation tool enables more consistent and efficient review of instructional design deliverables.

It helps teams identify issues earlier, improve asset quality before delivery, and maintain instructional standards across projects.

Reflection

This work demonstrates how evaluation tools can function as performance support for instructional teams. By making quality expectations explicit, the tool supports better design decisions and more focused feedback conversations.
