Preschool Campus Explorer — Interactive Drag-and-Drop Experience

Project Overview

Designing an interactive drag-and-drop learning experience to help newly admitted preschool students become familiar with their school campus in a safe, engaging, and age-appropriate way.

The activity introduces key campus spaces through guided interaction, supporting early comfort, recognition, and confidence in a new school environment.

Designing the Experience

The experience is designed as a play-based exploratory activity, not a formal lesson.

Young learners are guided to interact with visual representations of campus locations—such as classrooms, playgrounds, and common areas—by dragging and placing elements to match prompts. Audio narration supports understanding and keeps the activity accessible for pre-readers.

The design prioritizes simplicity, clarity, and positive reinforcement to encourage exploration without cognitive overload.

Client Context

Preschool students often find the transition into a new school environment overwhelming. Unfamiliar spaces and routines can increase anxiety, especially during the first few days of admission.

The client needed an engaging way to introduce the campus to young learners before or during early onboarding, while also giving teachers a structured, child-friendly tool they could easily facilitate in the classroom.

What this asset is (and isn’t)

It is:

  • An interactive onboarding activity for preschool learners
  • Designed to support campus familiarization through play
  • Audio-guided and interaction-driven for pre-reading audiences
  • Facilitated by teachers as part of early classroom routines

It is not:

  • A formal academic lesson
  • A test or assessment
  • A teacher training module
  • A content-heavy instructional program

Design Approach

The activity follows a recognize–match–reinforce flow.

Learners are prompted through narration to identify campus locations and drag items or markers to the correct visual areas. Immediate feedback—visual and auditory—reinforces correct interactions and gently redirects incorrect attempts.

Bright visuals, limited choices, and clear audio cues are intentionally used to support attention and motor skill development appropriate to preschool learners.

Key Components

  • Drag-and-drop interactions designed for young learners
  • Audio narration guiding each interaction

  • Visual representations of key campus spaces

  • Positive feedback and encouragement on completion

  • Simple interaction logic with minimal text dependency

Target Audience

  • Preschool students newly admitted to the school

  • Teachers facilitating early onboarding and orientation activities

Role & Contribution

I designed the complete interactive experience, including:

  • Interaction flow and drag-and-drop mechanics

  • Audio narration structure and learner prompts

  • Visual sequencing and feedback logic

  • Age-appropriate instructional framing

The focus was on ensuring the experience felt welcoming, intuitive, and supportive for first-time learners.

Outcome

The final activity provides a gentle, engaging way for preschool students to explore their school campus before navigating it physically.

It supports smoother transitions into the school environment and gives teachers a ready-to-use onboarding tool aligned to early childhood learning principles.

Reflection

This project highlights the importance of designing onboarding experiences that prioritize emotional comfort and familiarity—especially for very young learners.

By combining simple interactions with guided narration, the experience helps children build confidence through exploration rather than instruction.
